It has been a while since I just wrote a post about a day with the kiddos or the pups. Yesterday was just one of those days that blossomed into a fun time, which, judging by the headache I had when I first woke-up, seemed impossible at first. After several cups of coffee, a shower, and a little time, the headache subsided, and I decided to take the kids to McDonald’s for lunch. And yes, they are still alive and well…

I made them eat first, but then I let them run around free in the Playland. The weather was cloudy and forecasting rain, so I figured it would do fine to let them blow off some steam at “the inside park,” as they call it. Even Derek was in and out of the tunnels and slides and the screened-in stage thingy. Ashley would go in and I could hear her squeal in delight. She would try and chase her brothers all around. The boys made several friends over the two hours we were there. They played tag, played with the Happy Meal toys, and just plain had fun. We even got ice cream before we left.

Since Derek is in a cast and can’t swim or get it wet, I figured trips to the pool and lake were going to be few and far-between, so we went to Walmart. Why Walmart? I thought the older boys could go into the backyard with the hose and a sprinkler and still have fun this summer. We were there for about 2 hours looking over the relatively small number of water activities and hose accessories, but we eventually walked away with some fun stuff. We got a Triple-Racer Slip N’ Slide and a run of the mill sprinkler that goes back and forth. We had a lot of fun picking these out, and then they got some Spiderman bathing suits as well. It was a great day!
Today Jason and Troy went into the backyard and tested out the Slip N’ Slide and sprinkler. The had a ball! They started to get burned, so we applied sunscreen and they went right back out for more. I hope they have this much fun all summer! Poor Derek had to stay in with me, but he got the best seat in the house for cartoon watching and he got to help me make lunch and prepare to go to the drive-in.

Echo, now at 3 1/2 months old.
The drive-in is one of our favorite family activities. We went to see “Avengers” again and then “Battleship” right after. It was so much fun with our snacks and the cooler and all the blankets! No family activity is without drama, of course. The car battery died and we had to get a jump before we left, Ashley dumped milk all over herself, so she was in just a diaper for the second half of the night, and Jason had a stomach ache, but everything worked itself out. We got the jump we needed, Ashley was able to snuggle up in her carseat with her blanket, and Jason wrapped up in a blanket and was fine the rest of the night. Oh…and the movies were awesome!
It was great to finally have a couple of relaxing days with the family. We needed a little fun.
